Lots of cherry with a hint of rye spices. Not getting the smoked. Dried fruit and nuts.

Silkie: the Legendary Dark Silkie Irish. Peaty. (Weird.. it’s Irish)
Smoky/peaty flavors. Maybe some dark chocolate hiding in there somewhere? But mostly peat.
USA. I think I’ve had this before.
Caramel apples in the nose.
Tons of pepper in the first sip. (is this a rye?) More tropical fruit and grass as it opens up.
Gold/amber color.
Video tasting notes from Flaviar.
This was the December 2nd entry in the 2023 advent calendar.
Honey, tangerine, and grass in the nose.
Tropical fruit and a bunch of oranges in the first taste.
Pale straw color. Short tart finish.
A couple of drops of water opened more oakey flavors.
Day one of my advent calendar for 2023 (I’m getting a late start because I was traveling).
The vial itself is unlabeled so I tried it before knowing what it was. My first impressions were the mint, dill, and pepper that I associate with a rye, so I think that my first whiskey is an American rye.
The first taste was like an old fashioned. I always have my old-fashions with rye. And there was the hint of orange and lots of pepper.
Looking in the notebook that came with the Advent calendar I see that this is a sagamore Rye. So I was right.
There is also a YouTube channel that comes with this Advent calendar. Here is the recording for this particular whiskey. Last year they had written notes, which I rather prefer, but this was interesting. This dude tasted all sorts of things that I did not. So hopefully I can learn something from him.
December 10th entry in this year’s whiskey Advent calendar which just arrived today.
Pineapple, leather, and old books in the nose. Weirdly, smells like a used bookstore. A little dusty.
Taste: a hint of orange peel. Pepper. Salt and sea air. Something bitter and undefinable.
The color is kind of a pale gold.
It has a long finish that tastes like chewing on a stick. Possibly a pencil. There is something mineral about the finish.
With a spot of water, there’s a weird citrus and herbal aroma that emerges, which is very familiar but I can’t quite place it. Finally at the very end butterscotch and caramel emerged very prominently, but only when I only had a sip left.
